On a personal idiosyncratic note, I've for a long time dislike the use of "left" and "right" as ideological descriptors. It seems obfuscate more than illuminate, and it always requires more specification to actually say anything. 'Well I mean _economically_ left-wing...' and at that point, you might as well actually describe the ideology you're talking about. Thus I think " a discussion ... whether or not he was “right-wing” or “left-wing” " is always suspect.
I don't mind it as much as a description of factional arrangements in society, but... I think this comment is long winded enough :D
